An unresolved complaint/appeal/counter-appeal matter that occurred in the first preliminary final some two weeks ago has snowballed into a decision by the PSNA powers that be, to abort the division 3 finals series.
It is understood the matter emanated from questions raised about the eligibility of certain players taking the court. An apparent technical breach of processes the following week further compounded the matter leaving the division's finals program in total mayhem and resulting in a decision by the Match Committee and Executive to abort the division's major semi-final last week and this weeks grand final for 2010.
The other four divisions proceed with their grand finals this weekend
A pity, and though it is only a small part of the overall PSNA season, it was hoped that 2010 would restore some confidence into a flailing competition for the public servants and invigorate hopes for a stronger competition next year. It takes away somewhat from the intensity and enjoyment of this weekends games and the successes of the season and it obviously means there is some ways to go for the PSNA to achieving real stability.
From the outside it appears that the PSNA is struggling with a very basic component of any group competition and that is the integrity of their systems and officialdom, but the greater component or aspect of integrity is honesty and being forthright, and that has to come from the players themselves, the coaches and followers. There will always be moments when these qualities will be tested in each and every one of us such as when a player knowingly takes the court in a team she is not qualified to play in, because when the truth emerges, it hurts the whole team and ultimately the association, not just the individual.
Once these basic elements are ironed out, there is no reason why the PSNA shouldn't enjoy the successes of the PCNC. Remember that this social form of the game is for the benefit of all that make up the public service, either as spectator, player or official so cooperation is key to success. For those that stress over having to win every Saturday, please remember .......... it is just a game.
The Koneubau Executive has pledged to start off the 2010/2011 season early and with greater zeal. Near the Hoop will be there to carry news from your competition where mainstream media often fails, so be confident and make this weekends Grand Final one to remember and then start the new season off with a bang.
Good luck to all the teams in this weekends grand finals, team photos will be done 15 minutes before you take the court so make sure your looking your best.
