As we mentioned earlier, there had been a bit of a spat in the Division 3 quarter final results last week between Sports and IOPP, with the strangest inquiry turning on its head for Sports and costing them the game in the wash.
Sports had won the game 22 - 21 and were expected to have automatic entry to the grand final next week, but their insistence at testing the eligibility of one of the IOPP players turned on its head when IOPP responded with with an appeal of their own on the playing eligibility of Sports Goal Shooter, Rakwa Au. Results of the match was then held over pending a decision by the match committee.
On the previous weekend, this issue was raised as a matter for discussion and resolution. A motion was passed on the eligibility of players who do not physically take the court but have their names on a score sheet . It was resolved at that meeting that a minimum number of games must have been played in a division for a player to be then eligible. It is our understanding that Mrs Au, failed that criteria.
The game was awarded by default to IOPP, who advance to the Grand Final and Sports now need to beat NBC2 tomorrow to have another crack at IOPP in the season finalle.
Curiously it was the marital status of an IOPP player that started all the hoo ha, prompting the PSNA President Lyna Koneubau, at one point to ask for sanity to prevail, with someone jokingly adding "please ladies can you have your domestic issues after or before the competition and not during the season, because it just confuses everybody"
The good thing is that it is now resolved and we can let netball be the focus of our attention again.
Sports have a fight on their hands this weekend with NBC turning the volume up on Treasury in a well deserved win last week so if you've been following the division 3 games, that too will be a great game to watch.
It all starts early this tomorrow so get down to the courts early.
As always, we'll see you at the courts......

Simon, looks like the PSNA and NBC averted another appeal on player eligibility in the Div 3 game between NBC and Treasury. In looking through your coverage of photos of the PSNA semi's (by the way great pics), I noticed that NBC had been a little sneaky with their use of a player in Div 3 and Premier Div games on the same day through playing Lucy Johns in both games. From memory the PSNA rules do not allow this, paricularly for eligibiity purposes for the finals where players must have played a minimum of 4 games in that team. Aside from the issue of playing 2 games on the one day, quite clearly if you've played 4 games in the Premier Div to qualify for that final then you are no longer eligible to play in the Div 3 game. Treasury can feel justifiably hard done by after losing to NBC by 1 goal against a team that fielded a Premier Div player. Looks like the PSNA still has some way to go to bring a stop to this type of rule breach.
