Lae Netball starts up with "Super 7" Comp

It is understood from the grapevine that the Lae's Lahi Netball Association has started up a short competition called a "Super 7's" Comp as part of its pre-season.  Games, which started last weekend, are played at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium outdoor courts.

Josephine Ila, incumbent Secretary of the Lahi Netball Association confirmed that a short competition had commenced using the Inter-Company Corporate Games structure to kick start their competition and invited companies and clubs to register and put in teams as part of the ICC program.

Last weeks turnout was a bit disappointing, according to Mrs Ila, but it was expected to pickup this week as word trickles out.

Lahi Netball Association is the principle netball body in the City of Lae and has been a bastion of talent in the past, always providing the greatest competition to the more established Port Moresby/NCD/Central associations at every championship event for as long as memory serves.  However, in recent years, the game has fallen from favour and the spark that made netball in Lae the best watched sport in Morobe has been snuffled by politics and personalities so much so that they were barely able to send a team to the Manus championships in September last year.

With the ICC Games structure functioning well in Lae, perhaps netball can get itself reorganised to give the ladies of Lae and Morobe something to talk about again.
