It has been a while since I last posted and the inquiries have been coming quick and fast since to get things moving again. Unfortunately, other pressing engagements have prevented me from taking up the banner until now.
Since I last placed a blurb, the seasons proper for 2009 ended, the Independence celebrations and the local competition (Governor's Cup) in Port Moresby went by, the PorePorena Grandfinals were held at Hanuabada, Lorengau hosted the National Championships, the U21's attended and got a rude shock (introduction) to international netball in the Cook Islands and the PNG Games came and went. The Games did have the detrimental effect of delaying the off-season competitions in Port Moresby until early this year.
There's s story within that story that will make its way to the "spot" shortly so hang on tight. Similarly the Pepe's missed out on Singapore after a slight administrative oversight. As a result PNG was not able to defend its crown at the Singapore Nations Cup. That was meant to occur in December but didn't. The Pepe's still had a fairly busy year in 2009 and with their inclusion for the Commonwealth Games, touch wood, 2010 should be a big year for netball.
Under the stewardship of Barbara Penrose and Jenifer Ramamurthy and the IEA schools administration, the IEA schools held a very successful Grand Final for their competition at the Ela Murray International School to close off their season and the school year. The enthusiasm was well noted and if it keeps up, this will be another area for potential development and something the Netball Federation may well want to take a look at.
The PCNC and PSNA comps started off their 2009/2010 seasons, al-be-it three months late. Not surprisingly the PCNC competition has burguoned but surprisingly the PSNA comp appears to have contracted a little.
The comps are held on Satruday (PSNA) and Sunday (PSNA) each week at the bisini Courts. The games are a short format series givingeveryone an oportunity to play, but the comeraderie that emanates from a Sunday at the geames is infectious. If you attend on a Sunday you'll quickly get drawn into the carnival atmosphere of the event with an array of teams numbering this year at over 80, taking up almost the entire seven courts to the last games late in the day.
Last Sunday (14 Feb 2010) a few Surprises were there for noting with premier division grand- finalists, Westpac going down to a well fired up Fairdeal Liquors by 3. Steamships were also surprised by in form Sport Fundation in Division 3. there were many such stories on the day making things interesting for the foreseeable future.
On Saturday, Telikom returned the favour to NBC who crunched them three weeks ago, to win comfortably puting a broad smile on quite a few faces on the day.
Both the PCNC and the PSNA have had changes to their executives which I guess means there will be a story there too so we'll be busy ovver the coming weeks bringing you all up to date on the "hapnins"
Enjoy the pics for last week and until I figure out how to set up the gallery properly you'll have to bear with the images all in a row. Ther's quite a few so thre will be a series of them. Give us a yell if you'd like a higher resolution copy of a particular pic.
